Being a Machine Learning intern at Radix: how is it?

Author: Alice Rizzi ,

“I think there are always two factors when it comes to internships. You’re looking to do something challenging or fun on the technical side, but you’re also looking to be part of a nice team. That was really the case at Radix!”.

Our Machine Learning Intern, Martijn Leplae, said it best! A deep dive into a challenging project and a great team experience. In a nutshell, this is what you’re signing up for if you join Radix as an intern. Interested? Read on to find out more about what a typical internship looks like.

Learn how to build and deploy a Machine Learning solution from start to finish

We asked our Internship Supervisor, Ruben Broekx, to describe a typical internship with Radix:

“First, you can apply for an internship with us anytime during the year. You will learn how to start and successfully finish a Machine Learning (ML) project with a touch of cloud and project management.

When it comes to Machine Learning, there’s a broad range of topics you can choose from. Each topic is linked to one specific domain, such as NLP, CV, time-series analysis, and others.

As well as learning how to create a good working solution, you’ll also learn how to make it sustainable. This can include deploying your solution on the cloud or looking into some MLOps practices.

Finally, you will also learn how to manage ML projects. This includes setting deadlines, making sure they are met, as well as how to report properly about your project.

So to sum up, an internship at Radix teaches you how to build and deploy a ML solution from start to finish and prepares you to work in a professional environment.”

What are some example projects done by our previous interns?

Discover what our previous interns Martijn and Ivana worked on in the videos below. Both internships lasted six weeks, and they made them count!

Who can apply?

We have a few requirements for our internship vacancies.

Your qualifications:

  • You are fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • You have strong analytical skills and are familiar with the basics of machine learning.
  • You are available for at least 6 weeks (full-time), or an equivalent amount of days part-time.

Your technology stack:

  • You know your way around Python.
  • You know how to work with source control tools (git, conda, pip).
  • Familiarity with statistical Python tools such as Spacy, TensorFlow, or Torch is a plus.
  • Experience in back-end (e.g. FastAPI), front-end (e.g. Vue, Angular), and cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS) is another plus.

To intern at Radix, you need to be based in Belgium and studying at a Belgian university. Ideally, you should be in your last year of a Bachelor's or first year of a Master's in an Engineering field, preferably Computer Science.

What does the recruitment process look like?

Step 1. Hiring challenge to show you have what it takes (work out a small ML solution from A to K, the "to Z" you'll learn on the internship)

Step 2. Technical interview

Step 3. Hired! Call to discuss practicalities

Can you meet us in person soon? Of course, you can!

We will be attending a few internship fairs in Belgium very soon:

  • 21/11 at KU Leuven
  • 28/11 at uGent
